Frequently asked questions

What should I bring to class?

I will provide handouts for each class, but you may want extra paper or a notebook, if like me, you like to make note to help your memory.

If you so desire you're welcome to bring a dictionary or verb book - but it won't be a requisite. I do advise that you dress warmly.

The Governor's House is a fantastic building but not blessed with modern heating so wear your thermals!

Caffe e torta?

One of my principle objectives of teaching in a cafe was to make it relaxing and pleasurable.

Italians live and breathe food ...so assolutamente si!

You are welcome to order your Coffee in advance of the lesson and bring it upstairs or order it from me (from 2nd lesson onwards) in Italian and we will have them delivered half way through. You will also be entitled to a 10% discount on all food and cake.

Outside food and drink (unless water) will not be permitted.

How much italiano do I need?

If you are doing "Italian for Improvers! just a little is fine. If you've studied more and can hold a conversation then "Parliamo" is for you. Or contact me if you’re not sure which course to go for.

What if I find it really hard?!

Even with an Improvers course it can be challenging to learn something completely new! If you are struggling, just let me know and I will provide as much extra support as you need – for example I can send over the materials and plan in advance of class, and provide some easier activities for you.

I don’t know anyone! Will I have to socialise?

Most people will be in the same boat as you, especially if you start with Improvers! Many of my students say they were anxious at first about meeting new people, but they're actually finding an Italian class a very easy, non-pressured way to socialise. You can chat as you create or just drop into a listening zone and have some quiet time ;)

What if I am a complete Beginner?

Have no fear! Look out for courses starting in May called "Italian for holidays" where you will learn the basics of vocabulary needed for a holiday and September 2025 will see new Beginners Courses starting.

What if I miss a class?

That’s totally fine, life sometimes gets in the way! If you have a holiday planned or have to miss a class due to illness etc., just let me know so I can send over some resources to help you to catch up. As courses are just 4 sessions long, it is better to block out the hours for that month.

No Refund policy

Unfortunately refunds are not available on courses due to the advance costs that occur in course provision.
